Correct, as stated in one of my comments: I was using this hardware with Linux Mint 12 (based on Ubuntu Oneiric 11.10) and the nvidia driver and resume/suspend was fine. So this is a new configuration issue or bug.
I'm now using nouveu, which I'd expect would be more likely to work.
