Public bug reported:

I use a Thinkpad R500 on a docking station with an external screen which
I can rotate 90°. When I use arandr to change output orientation of
DVI-0 to "left" (as well as "inverted" and "right") the screen goes
black (internal screen still works). Switching back output orientation
to "normal" brings back the desktop. I have attached the output of these
4 lines (except the *.err files which were empty ):

xrandr --query --verbose > xrandr-qv.out 2> xrandr-qv.err
xrandr --query > xrandr-q.out 2> xrandr-q.err
xrandr --verbose > xrandr-v.out 2> xrandr-v.err
xrandr > xrandr.out 2> xrandr.err
