The log rather shows the file system is NOT mounted, since it is exposed by GVFS instead. Regardless, it seems you have put the playlist to loop, repeat or shuffle, which explains the endless loop.
But the real problem seems to be that your VLC configuration is corrupted such that it won't read directories anymore.
