I got it fixed. It had nothing to do with OS. It was the variety. I did
uninstall variety and now there is no problem in my system.

  System freezes

Status in “nfs-utils” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  My system freezes every time I minimize a start up application using
  minimize button after machine starts. Last week I moved to Qiana
  (CInnamon) RC release from Trusty Tahr and the system is now updated.
  My system never froze in Trusty Tahr. Hope this will be fixed soon.

  My system info is given below:

  Operating System: Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 32-bit
  Cinnamon Version: 2.2.13
  Linux Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic
  Processor: Intel Pentium CPU G2020 2.90 GHz x 2
  Memory: 2 GiB
  Graphics Card: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core Processor
