I had the same problem with an upgrade from 13.04 to 14.04 on a laptop with 4 GB of RAM. I hopefully looked at the output console during the crash alert, and this was related to a font installation, that is already a good clue. Don't know which one, could be a chinese one, as it's used on this system.
After upgrade tool crashed, I tried to restore some coherent state on the system. then I launched synaptic from a term, and mostly everything is frozen with lot of erros about gtk in the term. I can't log anymore from the pure text console (ctrl+alt+f1) and X11 is frozen since at least 10 minutes -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1303222 Title: synaptic crashed with signal 7 in _int_malloc() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/1303222/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
