I tried it with various pdf files, including a pdf file created in GIMP. Never works.
And yes, I am sure, it started a few weeks ago when I was still using Ubuntu 13.10. I only upgraded Ubuntu to 14.04 this weekend and the problem persists. It might be a specific problem on my system, I don't know. But I have not clue how to find out where the problem is.
