I found it out. I am now sure this bug is fixed. What I still saw appears to be a feature: When I opened the search dialog in geany (which I have usually placed in the lower half of the screen), onboard jumps out of the way so that the input field is not occluded. It makes sense, but wasn't obvious to me.
