I finally managed to fix my configuration. In dconf, I had com/canonical/unity/lenses/disabled-scopes set to ['files-local.scope']. Resetting this to the default [] value and restarting unity fixed my files lense. FINALLY, YAY! :-)
I *really* wonder how that value sneaked in there.
