I have the impression that packets larger than the MTU are not treated
correctly. It would be worthwhile if someone who knows more about this
did some MTU and IMCP "fragmentation needed" functionality tests.

The buggy kernel update seems to contains this patch: 
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/345509/
... which is related to my suspicion. It might be useful to double-check that 
patch for side-effects.
