Just a clarification, the error message when trying to reinstall Grub in the first case ("I was able to boot the system but then it was not possible to reinstall grub from the running system with the usual sudo grub-install /dev/sdX command.") was:
Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklistts are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged.. grub-setup: error: will not proceed with blocklists. The workaround described in comment #53 apparently works for me,as the error message is no longer visible, however the boot process itself now seems to take a bit longer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311247 Title: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/grub/+bug/1311247/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
