I am experiencing this problem on Xubuntu 14.04 after an upgrade today. I have tried all the suggestions I could find on internet , such as reconfig/reinstall lightdm and xubuntu-desktop, clear session cache, remove Xauthority, restart lightdm time and time again, but still cannot work around this problem.
