I just noticed when playing with above "GL Desktop" and "Appearance" that when "GL Desktop" fails to popup its dialog.. it also prevents the "logout" dialog to display when selecting it after this situation.
Only when in "System->Preferences->Appearance" the setting "Desktop Effects" is turned off and on, the "GL Desktop" and "logout" dialog appear.. And when logout was pressed multiple times, you get multiple "logout" dialogs.
