Guten nachmittag!

After some determined google-ing I found a partial solution, which may be a
clue.
I read that Firefox pulls the Libre Office dictionary as the default spell
check, and my Libre Office on several occasions has tried to install Spanish
Language help files but when I dug into Libre Office settings I found only
English.

But wait! Another google search found a user suggesting that I delete
all .dic and related files from my Firefox for all languages that I
didn't want. You have to do this as super user, but one afternoon I set
about deleting es_CU and some other languages but I didn't finish for
lack of time (I rm'd them one by one because using global command line
deletes scare me - files rm'd don't get sent to the trash can). The path
on my Ubuntu Studio where these files are found is:
/usr/lib/firefox/dictionaries

Orage now shows English language months and the week starts on Monday!
However, Firefox still wants to change to Spanish this time es_Peru. So
as time permitted I deleted all the other unwanted languages from my
Firefox profile and I have not experienced any language confusion since
in Orage or Firefox.

That seemed to fix it for me.
