xubuntu 14.04 x86_64 (not a fresh install, upgraded from 13.10) apt-get remove upowerd xfce4-power-manager seems to have fixed this issue here. I also removed light-locker, but the issue wasn't resolved until I removed those last two packages (upowerd in particular was the last one I removed)
