This error occurred when trying to get my NVIDIA GTX765M Optimus to work after the upgrade to 14.04.1. In 12.04 I used Bumblebee to get it to work. In 14.04 I purged Bumblebee and tried to install NVIDIA-Prime via:
sudo apt-get purge bumblebee* sudo apt-get install nvidia-prime (That part worked) and the prime-indicator: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install prime-indicator (This did not work During reboot this error immediately occurs. Nvidia prime does NOT show the PRIME profiles and the prime-indicator does not appear. For good order: I checked my PPA settings and I do NOT have the ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates setting.
