Hello Alexander: It is an IBM Thinkpad T42 with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection device.
I am using Network Manager Gnome to monitor the connection. Everything is updated to the latest and greatest. I am installing Ubuntu on the Windows XP laptop to see if the same issue happens there.
