I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04.1 earlier today. All attempts to launch
gnome-shell fail, both with the default trusty packages as well as with
the gnome3 packages.

gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libudev.so.0: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory
