The syslog file contains various warning and error messages related to external devices. Unfortunately, I am not sure how to further debug your problem. I suggest that you create a thread on Ubuntu forums [1] and try to get more people involved into resolving this.
Other than that, make sure that your system never overheats, not even after several hours, and run some general tests to detect hardware failures.
