Hi guys The first method (modifying boot parameters) did not work, so went for the recovery mode. Copied off the Xorg.o.log and xorg.conf and have have attached the the two files here.
The xorg.conf attached here is the one generated according to Alberto's instruction at #52 and subsequently Uwe's at #57.
