I am having the same / a similar problem. I am not able to install Kubuntu or Ubuntu Gutsy for either tribe 4 or tribe 5.
The problem seems to be as reported above: "The ATI fglrx drivers are not loaded for the video card, and Xorg fails to find any displays using the vesa driver. The Xorg log enumerates dozens of display modes, however the last line in the log indicates "No display modes found."" This is on a Fujitsu Siemens Pi 1536 with a Ati Mobility Raedon X1400 graphics card. This is really just to comment that the problem reported by Ryan Maki does not seem to be isolated. Furthermore it is present both in Tribe 4 and Tribe 5 for both Kubuntu and Ubuntu.
