Strangely enough when I rolled back to an older kernel it worked fine. I then waited for the next kernel update and installed it and it was fine. I installed eclipse and it had some problems and uninstalled and reinstalled and it started working. I think you're right. I clearly have a bunch of bad blocks on the drive. Thanks for the feedback.
