Public bug reported: Ubuntu 7.10 Tribe 5. M/B: Asrock 939S56-M OnBoard chipset: SiS 756
The first time I tried to install it on the system, the installation process freezed at the point "Scanning for mirror...", after many retries, i came of killing by hand all "wget" process so that installation finishes. Booting at the fresh installed system, had no difference, as the firefox couldn't visit all sites and update manager didn't work. Although network was connected, i had ip and I could ping the world! Searching on google I came up a solution of lowering MTU to 1492, and did the trick!. uname -a Linux papillon 2.6.22-10-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 22 08:11:52 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Unknown device 0756 (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] PCI-to-PCI bridge 00:02.0 ISA bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS965 [MuTIOL Media IO] (rev 48) 00:02.5 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE] (rev 01) 00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Sound Controller (rev a0) 00:03.0 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.1 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.2 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 00:03.3 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 2.0 Controller 00:04.0 Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 190 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter 00:05.0 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 182 SATA/RAID Controller (rev 01) 00:06.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] PCI-to-PCI bridge 00:07.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] PCI-to-PCI bridge 00:0a.0 Modem: PCTel Inc HSP56 MicroModem (rev 04) 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600] (rev a2) lspci -v only the part of ethernet 00:04.0 Ethernet controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 190 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Unknown device 0190 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 22 Memory at febfbc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128] I/O ports at e480 [size=128] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [GUTSY] SiS 190 onboard NIC problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137630 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
