This bug still exist in 14.04. gksu-properties is well set. The issue is unetbootin does not require a sudoer's password, but the user's one. For example, synaptic package manager handles this properly. See attached image: the user "arno" is not the current user, but the one that has administrator privileges.
Of course "sudo unetbootin" works when launched with a sudoer.
