I hope you didn't ask that from me Tormod, since I don't even use
Ubuntu. I use Kubuntu. :)

But I found out that it's still possible to have a static setting for
dual head in xorg.conf. Otherwise you'd have to put the xrandr command
somewhere where it's runned after boot for KDM (or GDM). Here's a good

I still haven't found out how to change the order of the detected ports
in the graphic card since the current order makes the login screen to go
to the "wrong" monitor and KDE's desktop settings also say that monitor
2 is the left one and monitor 1 the right one for me...
