Had the same problem with 2.6.20-16 using the onboard nforce2 usb
controller and a pair of Lacie 500Gb USB2.0 drives. I'm using software
raid1 on these drives.

This happened randomly - usually atleast once a day. Well anyway,
updated to 2.6.22-10 from gutsy and *knock knock* everything has been
working properly atleast for few days.
