I'll have to check which theme I'm using and will have to research how 
to tell. I think, but not sure, it is not the default one. Panels are 
definitely black now. In 12.04 the color and transparent panels worked 
perfectly. I also can't seem to add launchers for many of the programs 
and monitors [temp, disk activity, etc.] I had on them before. They are 
just not there now after the upgrade.

I understand. I mentioned before that my 14.04 [on a very fast machine] 
takes about 10-15x longer to start than did 12.04 - so many reboots 
really takes a long time!

Pfft! A lot of time and work...but I'll give it a try. I fear like death 
a 'clean install'....
