I have exact same experience on a Lenovo Notebook (6 years old and always running Ubuntu) with Nvidia proprietary graphics driver. With 12.04 it was perfectly fine. Now since 14.04 I experience same as Jaap Woldringh (jjhwoldringh) wrote on 2014-09-14:
the shutdown halts halfway, I guess after the hard disk stops rotating (noise stops), but the cooling ventilators still run. I have to keep pressing the hardware off button for 10 seconds or so, to get it fully halted (vent stopping). Vent keeps going otherwise indefinitely (tested it for more than an hour leaving it be, but did not change anything) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1346269 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1346269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
