Maybe this is natural for a Linux old timer but to be honest, I find it pretty unintuitive that you get color in a normal ls but no color when you enable pagination? I'd like to see this "fixed" but if you don't agree; that's fine by me (I modified my .bashrc as you suggested so it works for me now).
