The symptoms between Matthijs' problem and mine are identical, which leads me to speculate the causes are similar... Matthijs' problem, however, is documented already. Mine shouldn't, in theory, be happening. What fun :)
Thru a terminal, I've done mythfrontend --debug all > /foo/bar/output_log.txt or whatever the command is to give maximally-verbose debug output, and all I can tell is that things appear to be going normally right up until X pukes, at which point the logging stops because the terminal window is killed. Any suggestions about A) how to better gather debug information from mythfrontend or B) how to ascertain if there's anything related to compiz that's running for some reason and causing the instability in Mythtv? Please let me know if there's anything I can to to help unearth clues.
