I found the problem also, using latest stable xubuntu 14.04, on diferent computers(Lenovo, Asus, Schenker...) Close lid with or without locking enabled, but always turning to standby Afteropening, mouse pointer is invisible. My current solution ist to do STRG-ALT-F1 once, then directly going back to F7, after that, the mouse pointer is visible again. Hope thjat helps narrowing down the problem.
