I have same problem on Asus X550L. When I change microphone port in 'pavucontrol', from microphone(internal) to microphone(unplugged), i can hear sound from internal microphone, but its very, very quiet, even with maximum boost of 11.00dB External microphone dose not work at all. @Raymond Notebook have combo microphone/headphones jack
