Public bug reported: I recently tried to install Kubuntu 14.10 on my laptop, booting the iso image saved on the SSD with grub directly. However, I was unable to complete the installation because the installer got stuck. It insisted that it must unmount all partitions on my SSD to update the partition table but was unable to do that because the iso image it runs from was on a mounted partition on the SSD.
In fact it was wrong for the installer to insists on this. My partition table was prepared beforehand and there were no changes needed to it but still installer insisted that it must. And then it just hanged eventually. Now, Grub2 has had the ability for direct booting iso images for close to a decade now. Ubuntu should absolutely be install-able in this kind of situation. This behaviour seemed stupid and I would've installed something else if it weren't for the fact that I was specifically looking to try a systemd-free distribution on my laptop. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1391894 Title: Kubuntu installer deadlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1391894/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
