I think I have found what causes this problem. I have two printers attached, the HP 8600 with a duplexer, and an HP C7180.
Everything works as it should so long as I use only the 8600. However, when I use the C7180, then use the 8600 again, the printer controls have "forgotten" that the 8600 was configured to print duplex. The main configuration menu (the "File" popup/pulldown on the topmost display line) still shows it to be configured to print duplex as default, but when a print job starts, the configuration is changed to single-sided, even though it was duplex the previous time it was used. So long as I remember to check the configuration tab on the print job and change it to duplex, all is well. Mostly just a nuisance, but still a nuisance. Change of subject (sort of): could you point me to someone to discuss the printer controls' configurations/layouts. I have a couple of suggestions.
