The menu I saw offered different versions of the operating system, one per line. Since both the keyboard and the mouse were apparently not effective, pressing 'C' would presumably have no effect. The choices were different after I installed 14.04 and tried that, but the failure to receive anything from the mouse or keyboard was the same.
