I've also had a similiar problem today, but usplash detected a resolution of 1440x1440 on my LG L194WT. Manually setting it to 1440x900 and regenerating the initrd solved the issue. I've also had a lot of trouble configuring X for the widescreen, but I'll report this in a separate bug. I attach my ddcprobe's output.
