I got it working with links from Brian Pitts (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/displayconfig- gtk/+bug/125941/comments/7). I attach my working xorg.conf. Displayconfig should produce sth. like that.
I'm able to activate my external monitor with following command: xrandr --output VGA --mode 1024x768_70.00 --right-of LVDS Gnome panel is flipping to the external monitor which shouldn't, but everything else works without problems.
