Public bug reported:

In order to have tolerable latency, the timidity-daemon package has in
/etc/init.d/timidity the line
TIM_ALSASEQPARAMS="-B2,8"

However, this setting never reaches the timidity daemon since the timidity
package overwrites it in /etc/default/timidity with
# Setting overrides (of /etc/timidity.conf) for the ALSA sequencer daemon
TIM_ALSASEQPARAMS="-Os"

Consequently, the timidity daemon exhibits the kind of latency that is
to be expected for batch playback of Midi files where latency is not a
problem.

** Affects: timidity (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
