What work would be needed if the offending patch was placed in an alternative, as mentioned before, xorg mobile package? I imagine it will not be easy, but I guess it will save alot of people hassle in the long run. The main thing I am enjoying about gutsy is that I no longer need to deal with long tutorials to install Compiz/Beryl. This issue, if it is not 'fixed', will find a place stickied in the How To section of the ubuntu forums. This maybe Nvidias issue, but I suspect the user base will not care who's issue it is. Ubuntu has used plenty of workarounds to cater to problems that sit in other peoples court.
