There is much problem with 1.4.0 with recent distro. If you dont need
feature from 1.4 you should stay with 1.3.
Version 1.4 is very different from 1.3 and many feature are not
implement in it. It is why some people are working on a "modern" version
1.3 with cleaner code.
I'll mark the bug as "won't fix" but know that there is work in progress
trying to keep the project alive.
