For me it was enough to install nspluginwrapper and then flashplugin- nonfree - both simply from the repositories - and now I've got FlashPlayer 9 working in Gutsy 64-bit. I didn't copy or extract anything anywhere. Ofcourse it would be good if one had to install just flashplugin itself and let the system to take care of the rest.
