Just an update: I can confirm that after downgrading these three the bug is gone: * xorg 1:7.2-5ubuntu9 -> 1:7.2-5ubuntu6 * xserver-xorg 1:7.2-5ubuntu9 -> 1:7.2-5ubuntu6 * xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu4 -> 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-6ubuntu3 After downgrading the last one X started working again.
