The language was changed via SCIM using a font called bolnagri which didn't need SCIM. http://www.indlinux.org/blog/?cat=7
As said before, it happened when entering into the desktop. Can't review it now, as I'm suffering from bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139556 .
