ubuntu 14.04 lts

after rebooting the system, mysql fails to start correctly and does no create 
the appropriate .sock file.
the mysqld process is running.

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

mysql should restart correctly after a system reboot
