I dont know how to get the actual frequency of the processor without
"cpupower" which requires some "linux-tools-*" which are not available
with the mainline kernel.

Nonetheless the quick benchmark with octave
> time echo "a=rand(3000);a*a;" | octave -q
reports less than 4 seconds, which indicates that the frequency scaling does 
seem to work with this kernel.
