Fantastic! Following the information above I did a search for amd76x_edac and found Debian bug #363682.
Blacklisting amd76x_edac solves my problem (two problems actually, since the messages in my syslog which I reported as bug #55204 stems from EDAC too). EDAC was introdused in 2.6.16, but for me it seems that it isn't quite there yet.
