Can folks affected by this bug please test the v4.0-rc1 kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/
If it does boot, we may want to go the reverse bisect route. I also have a Vivid test kernel building with a cherry-pick of commit: 162b6a57a.
