I am using Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Simple Scan, version 3.12.1-0ubuntu1, crashes when attempting to scan from
Brother multi-function printer/scanner DCP-J4120DW.
I have installed the Brother drivers using the software
linux-brpinter-installer-2.0.0-1 from the Brother support web site.
I then edited the file /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules to add the two lines:-
# Brother scanners
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
as per this web site:-

When scanning using Simple Scan the scanner starts the scanning process
but Simple Scan crashes.

I have installed xsane and the scanner works correctly with this
software.
