I think he was guessing that there might be additional patches, but if you 
tried the mainline builds for 3.11.x we can rule that out. The mainline builds 
are without any special driver patches for that reason. It looks like some kind 
of regression in vesafb (either due to changing that or something that happens 
because it gets initialized much earlier now). The simplefb happens to be one 
that does not show that issue but due to the other issues would be a problem 
for us if activated. So I would prefer to find out how to fix vesafb or whether 
another fb driver may work as well.
Unfortunately I did not yet get to try my box here due to suffering a bit from 
the jet lag. I am on it now, just a bit slow.
