all_generic_ide worked for me on my Dapper installation! After I tried that, even though I had previously tried to solve the problem by upgrading to Gutsy without success, I tried Gutsy again, this time as a fresh install from a CD (Tribe 5). Now the CD and DVD both work with Gutsy, even without all_generic_ide.
