Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (on a laptop):
* create new user
* log in to plasma session
* plug in external display
* Go to System Settings and disable the internal display

Result:
plasma crashes and comes back up

Side note:
With my main user plasma would crash and not come back up.
This seems to have been resolved by removing
~./kde/share/apps/plasma*
